Integrative Healthcare

By incorporating Integrative Healthcare into our practice, we employ a personalized strategy. This strategy considers the patient’s unique conditions, needs, and circumstances, including biological, behavioral, psychosocial, and environmental factors that may affect our patient’s health.

As a Wellness Center, we take a holistic approach to health, where all elements of the individual are considered, including physical, personal, social, emotional, and spiritual factors.

Our approach allows us to work more collaboratively with our patients, so we may better understand and take into account those issues that prevent our patients from achieving optimal health. Optimal health is not just the absence of disease or symptoms, rather it is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.  At BodyPro Wellness Center, our goal is to help our patients achieve this state of well-being.

Doctor of Integrative Medicine

The American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS) offers integrative medicine certification through the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM).

Board certification from the ABOIM enables successful candidates to present themselves to the public as qualified medical specialists in the practice of Integrative Medicine. Completing the Integrative Medicine board certification indicates mastery of the specialty experience and knowledge as well as a professional commitment to adhere to the ABPS Medical Code of Ethics.

Integrative Medicine Defined

Integrative Medicine, as defined by the ABOIM and the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine, is the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes uses of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals, and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.

Defining Principle of Integrative Medicine

The most defining principle of Integrative Medicine is that it is healing-oriented medicine that considers the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative.

Integrative Healthcare

As part of our practice, we work together with our patients as partners in the healing process, so that we can better address our patient’s unique conditions, needs, and circumstances. This is the core of Integrative Healthcare.

Our personalized care helps our patients achieve an ultimate state of well-being, as we:

  • Target the Patient’s Immediate Health Problems
  • Explore the Deeper Causes of the Disease or Illness
  • Incorporate Different Treatment Modalities to Facilitate the Body’s Innate Healing Response
  • Use Effective, Natural Interventions
  • Focus on Health Promotion and Prevention
  • Foster the Development of Healthy Lifestyle Choices

Integrative Medicine Healthcare Strategy

Our Integrative Medicine Healthcare Strategy is to empower our patients to be well and stay well. We empower through inspiration and education, helping our patients to understand and experience the healing power, vitality, and energy they possess within themselves to help them achieve a dynamic state of health.

Integrating Conventional and Functional (Holistic) Medicine

In integrating the best of conventional (Western scientific medicine) and functional (holistic) medicine, we can offer treatment modalities that encompass the best each has to offer. For example, patients who have cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy treatments often have nausea as a side effect and may be prescribed fresh ginger or ginger ale to treat their nausea rather than a prescription for Zofran. In this instance, chemotherapy is the conventional medicine approach to treating various cancers, and the fresh ginger or ginger ale is the holistic approach to managing the side effects, like nausea. In this example, the practitioner has integrated his knowledge of these two medical disciplines to provide the best care to his patient.

Integrative Medicine seeks to treat the whole person (body, mind, spirit, environment) to promote health and wellness through the treatment and prevention of disease.

Functional medicine is very much like integrative medicine where the emphasis is placed on the individual rather than the disease, but the functional medicine practitioner employs a systems-oriented medical approach to identify and understand the underlying cause of disease and tries to fix imbalances in the body.

The main difference between Integrative and Conventional Medicine lies in the philosophy that guides the approach to chronic symptoms. Integrative Medicine emphasizes identifying and treating the underlying cause of disease whereas Conventional Medicine addresses acute and urgent medical conditions with the emphasis on treating the symptoms.

Integrative Healthcare is a practical strategy where patients are at the center of the care, working closely with the practitioner as partners in the healing process. This partnership gives the practitioner a better opportunity to address the patient’s unique conditions, needs, and circumstances.
